FBC 10th Anniversary Golf Championships a great success!

Another much awaited day took place at Jumeirah Golf Estates on November 19th, when 28 players teed up for our 10th Anniversary Golf Championships. The competition inherited a trophy, Riston malja, from a smaller annual event organised by the former Finnish Ambassador Mr Risto Rekola in early 2000’s.  Year by year the competition got bigger and better, with 46 players at most, and up to a hundred people participating in the after party, which has also been celebrated as the “Pikkujoulu”, the little Xmas party.  We remember many joyful and hilarious moments – some of which we might almost want to forget (witnessed Nuuttipukki competition?)!

In the shadow of Covid-19, looking back at those cheerful worry-free days, it seems like a distant memory. For a moment there was a doubt if we can carry on with the tradition this year. Even at the risk of last minute cancellation due to the pandemic we decided to hold on to the legacy, abiding to the regulations and rules.  Masked competitors were sent out to the course and another fun day was concluded just before sunset. The Fire course was getting prepared for its first European Tour competition, and we too felt like we were making history as the course steps up from the shadow of the majestic Earth course, home of the Race to Dubai finals. Memorable year in many senses. Congratulations to Fredrik Schauman, the winner in the scratch category, and to Petri Pentti who won the stableford category. The longest drives, again, were hit by Anne Sahlström and Fredrik Schauman, and Mikael Nordenswan hit closest to the pin.

A brief history of FBC and of the golf tournament, including past category winners and photos, is linked here. We hope to return to the next competition under lighter and brighter skies next time, with Covid-19 and masks, hopefully as a distant memory. Until then, stay safe.

Looking for a mentor? Are you a mentor?

Would you like to mentor someone you can share your knowledge with? Are you looking to be coached by someone to exchange your ideas? Do you value networking? Are you interested in participating in a program that may benefit your personal growth and development, provide career guidance and goal achievement?

We are pleased to announce the launch of our Mentorship Program 2020/2021 for Nordic Young Professionals members. If you would like to become a Young Professionals member in FBC, join here. The yearly membership fee is 250 AED.

Through the Mentorship Program, we link ambitious young professionals with knowledgeable executives and entrepreneurs.  Our mission is to promote a mutual exchange of ideas and experience between mentors and mentees. The program provides participants with personal career guidance, ideas, business training and networking opportunities to foster the relationships between the more experienced members and the young professionals. The goal is to create valuable synergies between mentors and mentees, where both can benefit from each other’s experiences.

Mentees, which are Young Professional Members, will get a chance to learn from professionals who have extensive experience in their particular field of expertise. Where they can get professional support with their resume, tips on how to cope with challenges in the workplace, how to make the most out of their careers, as well as realizing business ideas and goals.

Mentors are Nordic Members, and they will surely be amazed with new ideas and fresh ways of thinking, insights of potential recruits and, perhaps most important, the joy of seeing a mentee nourish, grows and succeeds.

The Mentorship Program will benefit both parties in the fields of interest agreed upon by the mentor and the mentee.

If you are interested in participating in the program, please send your interest with a brief introduction about yourself and your contact information to admin@fbcuae.fi before 15 October, 2020. Please note that all applicants must be members of a Nordic Business Council where the mentees are Young Professional members. The participation in the program is free of charge and is subject to availability of a suitable mentor and a mentee.

We hope that you will sign up as soon as possible - either as a mentee, mentor or both if applicable. We look forward to receiving your application!

Three repatriation flights organised by FBC during summer 2020

FBC organised altogether 3 repatriation flights with flydubai during the summer 2020 to bring Finns to and from Finland. Passengers were handed out a face mask with the Finnish flag to keep as a memorabilia of this extraordinarily year and flight. Our flights and hand-made masks were also noticed and will be featured by Aviation museum in their Covid-19 –exhibition – so we made a bit of history in that sense! Read more about the exhibition here.

Below are some of the pictures which will be featured in the exhibition!

Ps. If you have more historic photos of flying during Covid-19 (also without people or the masks), the exhibition welcomes more material. Contact us and we will connect you further.
